A horse racing trainer in Dubbo, New South Wales, Australia, has been disqualified after verbally attacking a racing official during an inspection. Garry Lunn, a successful trainer with over 500 wins, including more than 100 at his local Dubbo racecourse, faced consequences for his behavior.
During a stable audit inspection in September by RacingNSW officials, discrepancies in stable return records were discovered. The following month, racing steward Xavier Dalton returned for another inspection, only to be confronted by an aggressive Lunn who made disrespectful and improper remarks towards him, as per a RacingNSW inquiry.
Lunn reportedly used offensive language towards Dalton, calling him derogatory names and questioning his competence. Despite Dalton’s attempts to conduct the inspection, Lunn’s behavior escalated, leading to a formal charge of obstructing and hindering Dalton from performing his duties and engaging in disrespectful conduct during the inspection.
Although Lunn denied the allegations, he was found guilty of both charges. As a result, he received a three-month disqualification for the first offense and a nine-month disqualification for the second, with the disqualification period running concurrently from November 14, 2025, to August 14, 2026.
