Toto Wolff believes that Lewis Hamilton’s final years with Ferrari will not be the highlight of his career. Hamilton, who is currently 40 years old, is aiming to secure an eighth drivers’ title before retiring from Formula 1 with the Italian team. However, his chances of achieving this feat seem slim as he has yet to reach the F1 podium with Ferrari, despite winning a sprint race in Shanghai earlier this year.
Despite the challenges Hamilton faces at Ferrari, his legacy as one of the greatest F1 drivers is already established. With 105 Grand Prix victories and seven championship titles to his name, Hamilton’s success was predominantly achieved during his 12-year tenure as a Mercedes driver. Wolff, who has been his team principal throughout this successful period, believes that Hamilton’s legacy is secure, citing Michael Schumacher’s winless stint with Mercedes at the end of his career as an example.
Acknowledging Hamilton’s struggles to adapt to Ferrari, Wolff emphasized that he does not pity his friend and former colleague. He highlighted the reasons behind Hamilton’s move to Ferrari, emphasizing the need for a change in environment for both parties. Despite moments of frustration, Wolff remains confident that Hamilton will bounce back with strong performances in the near future.
