Joe Exotic, known from the popular “Tiger King” documentary, has paid tribute on social media to a colleague, Ryan Easley, who tragically lost his life after a tiger attack at Growler Pines Tiger Preserve in Oklahoma. Easley, aged 37, was fatally mauled by the tiger, suffering severe injuries before succumbing to the attack. The tiger involved has been isolated in a cage pending investigation into the incident.
Expressing his condolences, Joe Exotic extended sympathies to Easley’s family and defended the tiger, urging against stricter regulations on such preserves. He emphasized the risks inherent in their line of work and opposed calls for bans on keeping tigers. Additionally, he criticized PETA for their allegations against the preserve’s treatment of the animals.
Joe Exotic reminisced about his acquaintance with Easley, highlighting his passion for working with tigers despite the associated risks. He concluded by honoring Easley’s memory and expressing respect for his dedication to his work. In response, PETA condemned the preserve, labeling it a “roadside zoo” and calling for the closure of facilities involving forced animal performances.
Humane World for Animals also expressed sadness over Easley’s death, labeling it a preventable tragedy. Easley’s preserve, a private facility offering tiger tours and educational demonstrations, has temporarily halted all activities following the tragic incident.
