“Study: Over 50% Face Monthly Broadband Woes”

Published on

A recent study has revealed that over half of individuals experience unreliable broadband connectivity issues at least twice a month, with many choosing not to take action to rectify the situation. The research, conducted by mobile and broadband provider giffgaff, highlighted instances where people missed out on significant opportunities such as concert tickets and job prospects due to inconsistent wifi signals. Some even shared personal stories of relationship strains and disrupted phone activities because of frequent broadband disruptions.

Approximately 53% of respondents face recurrent wifi problems, citing frozen work calls, lost orders, and interrupted entertainment streaming as their top grievances. To maintain connectivity, a significant number of individuals resort to extreme measures, with 36% leaving their homes to seek better signal reception at cafes, friends’ houses, libraries, and supermarket parking lots. Shockingly, 6% admitted to parking outside their ex-partners’ residences to utilize their wifi.

Within households, coping strategies vary from pacing around for better reception to shouting at the router and exhausting phone data by tethering. Despite communal frustrations discussed in messaging platforms like WhatsApp, many users are hesitant to switch providers, citing the perceived inconvenience.

A substantial 31% find the idea of switching providers burdensome, while 25% doubt that an alternative service would offer any improvement. Consequently, households collectively waste nearly 50 hours annually troubleshooting their broadband issues.

Addressing these common grievances, giffgaff has introduced a new full fibre broadband service, featuring three flexible plans starting at £34 per month, no installation charges, and symmetrical upload and download speeds. The service has already been launched in select regions, with plans for expansion by the year’s end.

Ash Schofield, giffgaff’s CEO, emphasized the importance of providing a reliable and hassle-free broadband service tailored to consumers’ preferences. Schofield encouraged dissatisfied individuals to consider switching to giffgaff as a simple solution to broadband-related frustrations.
