The Davis Cup final’s second singles match was interrupted when a spectator in the stands fell ill. Flavio Cobolli of Italy was in a tense moment trying to break Jaume Munar’s serve when he noticed the situation with the fan.
Munar had taken the first set 6-1 and was leading in the second set when Cobolli had a chance to break back. However, the game came to a halt as medical assistance was required in the stands, causing both players to return to their benches.
Commentator Arvind Parmar commended Cobolli for his prompt response, acknowledging the crowd’s quick reaction to the situation. The match paused as officials attended to the unwell spectator in the upper rows of the stands.
During the break, umpire Marijana Veljovic conversed with the players, while Italian captain Filippo Volandri offered guidance to Cobolli. As the spectator was being escorted out, Parmar noted the potential delay in the match as the person was assisted down from the stands.
Following a delay of about ten minutes, Cobolli managed to break Munar’s serve, equalizing the second set at 1-1. Italy held a 1-0 lead in the singles matches, with Matteo Berrettini securing a victory over Pablo Carreno Busta.
A win for Cobolli could secure Italy’s third consecutive tournament win, a feat not achieved since 1972. However, if Munar emerges victorious, the tie will advance to a decisive doubles round. Both teams are missing key players, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, who withdrew before the final began.
