Snooker professional Kyren Wilson has revealed the challenges he has faced off the table as his wife battled health issues. Despite his personal struggles, the 33-year-old athlete has maintained a strong position in the snooker world, currently ranking second globally.
Having clinched victories at the 2024 World Championship and the Shanghai Masters this season, Wilson’s recent performances have been less than stellar, with early exits from several tournaments including the Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters, the Wuhan Open, the English Open, and the British Open.
The snooker star expressed the difficulties he has encountered at home, where his wife Sophie has been undergoing medical treatment. Wilson shared, “I’ve had a bit of a torrid time off the table. My wife has been very poorly, so I’ve not really played snooker for the best part of four or five weeks now.”
Despite the challenges, Wilson remains focused on his game and is optimistic about his future performance. He acknowledged the sacrifices he and his family have made for his career, emphasizing the importance of mental clarity in achieving success.
Wilson, who has been married to Sophie since 2016 and shares two children with her, recounted her past health struggles, including a stroke and surgery during his participation in the Wuhan tournament earlier this year. As Sophie continues on her path to recovery, Wilson aims to regain his top form on the snooker table.
Currently competing at the Xi’an Grand Prix, Wilson is in good form, having defeated Haris Tahir in the opening round. His recent achievement of a maximum 147 break against Mark Williams at the Chinese Billiards and Snooker Association Superstar Invitational demonstrates his potential for success in the upcoming matches.
