A 22-year-old man, identified as a “predator” paedophile, pretended to be a 14-year-old boy on Snapchat to target and deceive numerous young girls. Stuart Latham, who was unemployed, sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl and victimized hundreds of other girls by assuming a false identity as a teenage boy named “Josh” on the internet.
Latham, who has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for his crimes against 39 young girls, exploited teenage girls by coercing them into sending explicit images and videos, sometimes offering money in exchange. He amassed around 4,000 indecent images, many obtained through blackmailing his victims, and committed offenses against girls aged 12 to 15 across the UK.
The defendant admitted to charges including rape, blackmail, engaging in sexual communications, sexual activity with a child, making and distributing indecent photographs, and possessing extreme pornography. Judge Philip Parry, while sentencing Latham, described him as a highly dangerous individual lacking empathy or remorse, causing significant emotional harm to multiple young girls.
Latham’s first victim reported their sexual relationship with him in December 2023, leading to his arrest. He later abused the first victim’s friend. During the court proceedings, two of his victims, along with their families, bravely faced Latham as the judge delivered the sentence.
Detective Sergeant Simon France from Greater Manchester Police’s online child abuse investigation team characterized Latham as one of the most dangerous sexual predators he has encountered. Latham’s relentless online activities, treated as a full-time job, targeted children daily from his home in Wigan, according to detectives. France expressed concern over the severity of Latham’s actions and the impact on his young victims, emphasizing the need for vigilance against such predators in the future.
