Sky Q, known for its exceptional features, is a highly acclaimed set-top box. Renowned for its ability to record live TV and provide access to premium channels, on-demand content, and popular streaming apps like Disney+ and Netflix, Sky is now shifting focus from its satellite-based platform to internet-centric products such as the Sky Stream box and Sky Glass TV. This move may pave the way for a new competitor in the market for those who prefer physical recordings.
Humax has introduced the Aura EZ 4K TV Recorder, a device that emulates many of the key functionalities of Sky Q. Similar to Sky’s flagship box, it comes with a built-in 2TB hard drive for storing numerous hours of TV programs, movies, and sports events. Given the decreasing availability of physical recording options, a new device with internal storage is a significant development.
Apart from aerial recordings, the Aura EZ, powered by Freely, allows users to access live TV over broadband. Developed by the Freeview team, Freely offers over 60 live channels and a wide range of on-demand content. This feature facilitates easy relocation of the box, simple installation, and regular feature enhancements.
Noteworthy features of the Aura EZ include 4K HDR picture quality, Dolby Digital Plus audio, and an integrated TV guide displaying current and upcoming programs. Users can conveniently manage the box remotely via the Humax Aura EZ smartphone app, enabling them to browse schedules and handle recordings from anywhere.
Although Freely may not match Sky’s premium sports and movie offerings, it is a cost-free service without any subscription charges.
The Humax Aura EZ is scheduled to debut in the UK in February 2026, priced at £249.
Meanwhile, Sky has announced its own upgrade, introducing a new subscription bundle that combines major streaming services at a reduced monthly rate. For £24 per month, customers will gain access to Disney+, Netflix, Hayu, and the upcoming HBO Max.
Sky’s bundle is designed to provide enhanced value by consolidating multiple streaming platforms under one subscription. Ultimate TV plan subscribers will also enjoy access to over 130 premium channels, including Sky Comedy, Sky Documentaries, Sky Crime, and Sky History.
Additionally, Sky Cinema customers will benefit from a new Disney movie channel directly added to the TV guide.
The £24 bundle includes:
– Netflix Standard with Ads
– Disney+ Standard with Ads (from March)
– HBO Max Basic with Ads (from March 26)
– Hayu (from July, with selected content available from March)
