An inquiry has been initiated following an incident where a schoolgirl was approached by a man who allegedly instructed her to enter his van. The adolescent, who had recently left Bartley Green school, was accosted by an individual in a van near The Cock pub in Bartley Green, Birmingham, on Wednesday. The girl was left feeling unsettled by the encounter, and authorities are currently providing her with support. The school has informed parents about the situation.
A communication from Adams Hill school, which was circulated online and reviewed by BirminghamLive, stated: “We have been informed of an incident that occurred last night outside The Cock pub. A student was approached by a driver of a white van and asked to enter the vehicle. Although shaken, the student is unharmed. The incident has been reported to the police, and we will be discussing personal safety with students when they are in the community.”
The Mirror has contacted the school for a statement. West Midlands Police has been approached to determine if this incident is related to a similar case in a nearby area over the weekend. Fortunately, a nine-year-old boy narrowly escaped after a van driver attempted to abduct him from Church View.
The police had previously informed Birmingham Live that the Church View abduction attempt was not connected to another incident involving a schoolgirl near Faulkners Farm Drive in Erdington ten days earlier. Regarding the Wednesday incident, a police spokesperson mentioned, “We are investigating after a teenage girl reported that a man in a van approached her on Jiggins Lane, Bartley Green, around 3:30 pm on Wednesday, September 24. We have spoken with her and are providing support as inquiries continue. Local officers will conduct additional patrols for reassurance. CCTV and doorbell footage are being collected and reviewed.
