“Russian Drone Attacks Persist, Causing Chaos in Kyiv”

Published on

Russian drone attacks on Kyiv and its surroundings have continued for the fifth consecutive day, causing disruptions to daily life with constant air raid sirens. On Monday, the assaults resulted in injuries to four individuals and damage to various structures in the Kyiv region, as reported by regional Governor Tymur Tkachenko via Telegram.

The onslaught of drones, many of which are jet-powered, has inflicted casualties, destroyed residences, and warehouses in Kyiv and nearby areas. One devastating incident was a Russian drone strike on an ammunition depot last Friday, leading to explosions that claimed the lives of 38 people.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy stated on Sunday that the relentless drone attacks were intended to wear down the Ukrainian populace. Over a span of four days, Russia launched almost 1,500 drones at Ukraine, with more than half of them being jet-powered, according to Zelenskiy.

Additionally, a Russian strike caused a fire at a terminal operated by the private courier Nova Poshta in the southern Odesa region, as confirmed by Governor Oleh Kiper on Monday. In Kryvyi Rih, a jet-powered drone attack on an industrial facility left two individuals injured, according to a local official.

Both Ukraine and Russia have escalated their strikes in recent times, targeting economic assets such as major e-commerce companies and retailers. Russian attacks have focused on warehouses belonging to prominent Ukrainian supermarket chains, top postal services, and home-goods stores. Similarly, Ukraine has retaliated by targeting Russian infrastructure, with a logistics hub in Russia’s Yekaterinburg falling victim to a drone attack, as disclosed by the local governor on Monday.

In Kyiv, the air attacks have intensified, causing disruptions to daily routines and public transportation. The lack of interceptors capable of downing ballistic missiles in Ukraine has emboldened Russia to expand its daytime drone attacks, further complicating life for Kyiv residents.

During the alerts, the metro service was halted, leaving passengers stranded, including individuals like nurse and psychologist Yulianna Oliynyk, who was en route to a school with her two sons. Oliynyk expressed her frustration as the family faced delays and uncertainties due to the ongoing air raid alerts, contemplating the idea of spending the night in the metro due to the persistent disruptions.
