“Rudakubana Inquiry: Family’s Negligence Exposed”

Published on

The brother of Axel Rudakubana has revealed that the notorious killer became increasingly isolated following his expulsion from school for attacking a classmate. Dion Rudakubana, the older sibling of the Southport assailant, expressed his deep sorrow for the devastation caused by the tragic incident.

In a statement presented during the Southport Inquiry, Dion’s legal representative emphasized the need to investigate the actions of public agencies in potentially preventing the tragedy. Dion wholeheartedly supports the inquiry’s objective of learning from the past to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Axel Rudakubana, known as AR in legal proceedings, carried out a horrific stabbing spree at a dance class in Southport, targeting women and girls. The brutal attack resulted in the deaths of three young children and injuries to several others, including the dance teacher and a local businessman.

The inquiry revealed a history of disturbing behavior by Rudakubana, including previous assaults and possession of weapons. Despite warning signs and interactions with authorities, the system failed to recognize the extent of the danger he posed. Dion Rudakubana, who is wheelchair-bound and a university student, maintains that he had limited contact with his brother but acknowledges the involvement of social services and other agencies in Axel’s life.

The families of the victims have raised concerns about the Rudakubana family’s awareness of the risks posed by Axel and their alleged negligence. The inquiry aims to provide a comprehensive account of the events leading to the attack and the interactions between the perpetrator and various state agencies.

Following his admission of guilt, Axel Rudakubana received a life sentence with a minimum term of 52 years. The inquiry, led by Sir Adrian Fulford, is committed to addressing the families’ questions and implementing necessary changes to prevent similar tragedies in the future. The initial phase of the inquiry is expected to continue until November.
