A driver, described by witnesses as speeding recklessly, resulting in a fatal crash that claimed the life of one passenger, has been sentenced for dangerous driving. Ryan Evans, 27, tragically lost his life in Stockport, Greater Manchester, when the Audi he was in crashed into a wall last year. Arran Donnelly, now 28, was at the wheel and reportedly using nitrous oxide just before the tragic incident. The car veered off the road on Broadstone Road in Reddish on February 24, 2024, killing Mr. Evans. Donnelly, along with two other passengers, sustained injuries in the crash.

According to reports from Manchester Evening News, witnesses observed Donnelly driving at excessively high speeds, significantly above the legal limit, showing aggressive acceleration through a residential area. The court heard testimonies describing his erratic driving behavior, such as accelerating rapidly and driving recklessly.

Although the cause of the crash was attributed to driver error, it was noted that Donnelly’s use of nitrous oxide was considered an aggravating factor during the sentencing. The court also presented video evidence showing Donnelly using nitrous oxide shortly before the crash.

Donnelly, who pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving, expressed remorse for his actions in a letter read by his lawyer during the court proceedings. He was sentenced to six years and nine months in prison, with a driving ban imposed for eight years and four months, along with the requirement for a retest.

Judge Usher emphasized the grave consequences of dangerous driving, stating that cars operated recklessly can be as lethal as weapons. Detective Constable Alex Giblin of Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit highlighted the severity of Donnelly’s actions, underscoring the tragic loss of life resulting from his irresponsible driving behavior.
