Reba McEntire has officially announced her engagement to long-time partner, Rex Linn, following the recent passing of her stepson, Brandon Blackstock. The 70-year-old, known for her role on The Voice US alongside Niall Horan and Michael Buble, made the revelation during their appearance together at the Emmy Awards on Sunday.
During the event, Rex was introduced as Reba’s fiancé for the first time, marking a significant shift from being referred to as her boyfriend. Despite hints about their shared involvement in the sitcom Happy’s Place, Reba did not shy away from confirming their engagement when questioned by Zuri Hall.
Their relationship traces back to 1991 when they co-starred in The Gambler, but it wasn’t until they reunited on the set of Young Sheldon in 2020 that they began dating. Reba has been vocal about her deep connection with Rex and her openness to marriage, despite having been married twice previously.
Speaking about the possibility of marriage, Reba expressed her support for Rex, noting his desire to experience marriage for the first time. The singer had previously been married to Narvel Blackstock from 1989 to 2015, with Brandon being Narvel’s son from a previous relationship. Brandon, who was previously married to Kelly Clarkson, tragically passed away in early August after a battle with cancer.
Reba and Rex graced the Emmys together, with Reba performing a tribute to The Golden Girls as part of the show’s 40th anniversary celebrations. The duo also presented the award for Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, which was won by Hacks’ Hannah Einbinder. Einbinder used her acceptance speech to voice support for her sports team, criticize the American immigration enforcement agency, and advocate for a free Palestine.
