Reality Star Pete Wicks Opens Up About Pressure to Have Kids

Published on

Former Strictly Come Dancing participant Pete Wicks has candidly shared his disdain for a particular question he frequently faces, describing it as “stressful.” Appearing on the television show Loose Women, Wicks discussed the persistent inquiry that bothers him, which is not the typical question one might expect.

Wicks, aged 36, gained fame initially on The Only Way is Essex show in 2015. Over the past decade, he has accumulated a following of 2 million on Instagram and co-hosts a podcast with friend Sam Thompson from Made in Chelsea. Despite his personal successes, there is an incessant question that people direct at him, and he has grown weary of it.

During his recent appearance on Loose Women, Wicks admitted, “I constantly get asked, ‘When will you have kids? When do you plan to settle down?’ because I am approaching 40.”

“It’s a rather bothersome question for me. You see, no one questions those who have already settled down about their decisions. Do you understand what I mean?”

He went on to express his belief that there is “greater pressure on men,” although he acknowledged that “women face it more severely.”

Olivia Attwood, aged 34, also featured on the program and affirmed that this particular question is a consistent presence in her life as well. She explained that now that she is married, there is an assumption that within the “next two years,” she will want children, and if she doesn’t, people want an explanation.

Attwood disclosed that currently, she does not feel compelled to have children, stating, “people underestimate the magnitude of bringing a human into this world and raising them.”

She added, “It’s not just about having a baby. You are essentially responsible for a full-grown adult for the remainder of your life, and I am not in that frame of mind at the moment.”

In response to her remarks, viewers shared their own encounters, highlighting that the pressure does not cease even after having one child.

One viewer remarked, “And even after having one child, it’s always ‘when will you have another?'”

Another commented, “My baby is not even 5 months old, and people keep asking about a sibling. Perhaps I am content with just one child, thank you.”

A different user shared, “Exactly! After a nine-year struggle with fertility, we are six months into a pregnancy, and already people are inquiring about a second child. Can’t we focus on this one first? It also undermines the effort it took to reach this point!”

However, an opposing view was expressed by another woman who stated, “Our purpose is simply to reproduce, so it seems strange to others if you choose not to have children. It’s not that deep.”

In contrast, a TikTok user countered, “We are not here solely to procreate. We are here to lead our own lives as we see fit, not according to societal expectations.”
