Rapist James Clacher, who orchestrated his own demise and fled to Spain to avoid prosecution, has been sentenced to eight years in prison. Clacher, who manipulated his own death before escaping the country, was previously found guilty of sexually assaulting two women he targeted through dating platforms. The assaults, characterized as shocking and violent, occurred at the victims’ residences in 2019 and 2020.
The 57-year-old ex-gym manager vanished in May 2022 while facing legal charges. He was eventually located in Spain and extradited back to Scotland for trial. Following a court hearing at the High Court in Glasgow, Clacher was convicted of two counts of rape. In a recent ruling at the Edinburgh High Court, he received a 10-year extended sentence, serving eight years behind bars and two under strict monitoring.
