Prince Andrew made a surprise appearance at the funeral of the Duchess of Kent, showing up unexpectedly at Westminster Cathedral in London alongside Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York. Onlookers were taken aback as the pair swiftly entered the cathedral. Meanwhile, senior members of the Royal Family, including King Charles III and the Princess of Wales, gathered for the service. Unfortunately, Queen Camilla had to miss the event due to illness.
Earlier, Andrew and Fergie were spotted leaving their residence at Royal Lodge in Windsor with a police escort en route to the funeral. Upon arrival, Andrew was warmly greeted by clergy members outside the cathedral. His public career took a downturn due to his association with American financier Jeffrey Epstein, leading to his diminished role and reputation.
As the attendees arrived, Prince Michael of Kent, the Duke of Kent’s brother, appeared frail and used a walking stick to enter the church for the funeral mass. Accompanied by his wife Princess Michael of Kent and their daughter Lady Gabriella Windsor, the royal family members, clad in black attire, paid their respects to the late Duchess.
The Duchess, who was married to Queen Elizabeth II’s late cousin, will be laid to rest later in the day. This marks the first Catholic funeral for a member of the Royal Family in modern times, with a special message from Pope Leo to be included in the private service.
Buckingham Palace confirmed the duchess’s peaceful passing at her Kensington Palace residence on September 4, surrounded by her loved ones. In an official statement, the Palace expressed deep sorrow at the loss, highlighting the Duchess’s dedication to various organizations, her love for music, and her compassion for young people.
