Pizza Hut in the UK is planning to shutter 68 of its restaurants along with 11 delivery sites, resulting in the loss of 1,210 jobs. DC London Pie Limited, a franchisee of Pizza Hut dine-in restaurants, has appointed FTI Consulting as administrators. Yum! Brands, the global owner of Pizza Hut, has agreed to rescue 64 locations and 1,277 jobs through a pre-pack administration deal.

In a pre-pack administration, the sale of a business or its assets is arranged before the formal administration process commences. Pizza Hut UK spokesperson confirmed the acquisition of the Pizza Hut dine-in operations via a pre-packaged administration, ensuring the preservation of 64 sites to maintain the guest experience and safeguard jobs. About 1,277 team members, including leaders and support staff, will transition to the new Yum! equity business under UK TUPE legislation.

Nicolas Burquier, Managing Director of Pizza Hut Europe and Canada, emphasized that the strategic acquisition is aimed at maintaining the guest experience and preserving jobs whenever feasible. The immediate focus is on ensuring operational continuity at the acquired locations and supporting employees during the transition.

Directional Capital took control of 139 Pizza Hut restaurants in January 2025, saving 3,000 jobs after the collapse of the previous operator, Heart with Smart Limited. DC London Pie was established by Directional Capital to operate Pizza Hut restaurants in the UK. The first Pizza Hut in the UK opened in Islington, London, in 1973, expanding to over 260 restaurants nationwide and employing 10,000 staff at its peak.

This closure announcement adds to a series of struggling businesses shutting down in recent months. Poundland, following a major restructuring post its sale for £1 to an investment firm, has closed numerous stores, reducing its branch count from 800 to an estimated 650 to 700 stores through closures and lease expirations. Bodycare ceased operations after entering administration, leading to the closure of all its stores, with 32 stores shutting down immediately and another 30 permanently closing shortly after, while the remaining 56 stores will also shut down permanently.
