Piers Morgan has recently offered a sincere apology to Alastair Cook, 11 years after branding the former England cricket captain a ‘weasel’. Known for his critical stance towards Cook during his time as captain, Morgan had publicly criticized him for his alleged involvement in Kevin Pietersen’s removal from the national team in 2013.
Initially adamant about not apologizing to Cook and former England cricket director Sir Andrew Strauss, Morgan has now seemingly reconciled with Cook after appearing together on The Overlap and Betfair’s Stick to Cricket show. He explained that his previous animosity stemmed from his strong desire to see Pietersen continue playing, whom he regarded as a remarkable batsman.
Expressing regret for his past comments and acknowledging his excessive criticism towards Cook, Morgan stated, “I’m sorry for the 38 weasel references.” Despite Pietersen’s departure from the England team in 2013, Cook went on to represent the national side for an additional five years, accumulating an impressive record of 12,472 test runs and 33 centuries.
Reflecting on the aftermath of Pietersen’s exit, Cook has described it as the most challenging period in his career.
