A male perpetrator has been sentenced to prison for assaulting two underage girls in a violent incident. Steven Biggs, 42, encountered the two victims, aged 13 and 14, while they were walking on a residential street. They approached him while he was in his front garden on August 4, 2020, asking for a cigarette. Biggs then invited them into his home, where he sexually assaulted one of the girls in a bedroom. The other girl, who was waiting outside, was also coerced back inside and subjected to further assaults.
The Canterbury Crown Court revealed that these heinous acts occurred in the early hours of the morning at a property on Freemans Way, Deal. The Kent Police were informed on September 3, 2020, after one of the victims disclosed the incident to a family member. Subsequently, an investigation was initiated, leading to Biggs’ arrest on November 29, 2020.
Following a three-day trial at the Canterbury Crown Court, during which Biggs chose not to testify, a unanimous verdict was reached on September 24, finding him guilty of 10 sexual offenses, including three counts of rape. He has been sentenced to 18 years in prison. Additionally, he will be required to comply with sex offender notification regulations indefinitely and adhere to a 25-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Detective Constable Linda Gavin expressed deep concern over the violent abuse inflicted by Biggs on the two young girls, emphasizing the lasting trauma caused by his actions. She praised the bravery of the victims for their crucial role in securing justice and expressed relief that Biggs is now incarcerated, preventing him from harming other potential victims.
