Three-time Olympic athlete Michelle Plouffe has made a comeback to join Canada’s squad of four for the FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series event in Bangkok, Thailand. The 33-year-old Plouffe will team up with her identical twin Katherine Plouffe, along with Cassandra Brown and Paige Crozon for the competition commencing this Saturday.

Heading into the final phase of the regular season, Canada is currently ranked 10th in the standings of the women’s series. The top seven teams, in addition to the host nation China, will progress to the women’s series final in Shanghai on September 5-6. This makes the Bangkok event a crucial opportunity for Canada to gather essential qualification points.

Steve Baur, the vice-president and general manager of the women’s high performance program at Canada Basketball, expressed the rationale behind inviting Plouffe back to the team. He mentioned that considering the current standings and the push needed towards Shanghai, bringing Michelle onboard was a logical choice. Plouffe’s continuous involvement with the team and her prior discussions about a potential return made her a fitting addition at this pivotal stage of the season.

Having retired on July 28, 2025, to transition into the role of Canada Basketball’s 3×3 performance manager, Michelle Plouffe now has the chance to compete again. Her previous accomplishments include leading Canada to multiple FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series titles, securing a silver medal at the 2022 FIBA 3×3 World Cup, and a commendable fourth-place finish at the Paris Olympics.
