A newborn infant was discovered abandoned in the Bhilwara district of Rajasthan, India, with a stone placed in his mouth and his lips sealed with glue to prevent him from crying. The helpless baby was found amongst rocks and debris by a cattle herder who managed to remove the stone, prompting the child to cry immediately.

Following the rescue, the herder and villagers rushed the baby to the Bijolia Government Hospital for urgent medical attention. Doctors determined the infant to be approximately 15 to 20 days old, noting adhesive not only around his mouth but also on his thighs.

Authorities suspect that the use of glue and the stone was a deliberate attempt to silence the baby and avoid drawing attention. Police are currently investigating local hospital records to identify recently delivered women. Meanwhile, interviews with residents are ongoing in an effort to locate the parents of the child, who continues to receive medical care.

This incident highlights broader concerns in India, where similar cases of abandonment have been reported. Recently, a five-month-old girl was found abandoned in bushes in Chandigarh, while in Jharkhand, a baby was rescued from a drain with fractured hands on the same day. Additionally, a two-day-old infant was discovered abandoned outside a girls’ orphanage in Maharashtra in June, accompanied by a bottle, milk powder sachet, and a note citing parental struggles.

Local individuals who found the abandoned infants acted promptly, ensuring the babies received necessary care and medical attention. The community response underlines the importance of vigilance and compassion in addressing such distressing situations.
