“Miraculous Rescues: Workers Saved from Nepal Floods”

Published on

After 10 days since the devastating floods hit Nepal, rescuers successfully extracted a man and a woman in separate missions on Saturday. The man was rescued from a hydropower tunnel, making him the third worker to be saved from the Trishuli hydropower project. The country’s prime minister’s office confirmed the rescue operation. Previously, two Nepalese workers were rescued the day before.

Nepal’s army, along with South Korean disaster experts, conducted a joint effort to rescue the man from a 225-meter tunnel. The man was later airlifted for a health assessment. Images captured the moment he was transported by helicopter, with an army medic attending to him during the flight.

Chinese state broadcaster CCTV released a photo showing two rescuers bringing the man out of the tunnel. The man narrated his experience, expressing how he shouted for help whenever he noticed the rescue team’s lights, but they couldn’t hear him initially.

The man expressed his disbelief upon being rescued, stating, “When they rescued me today, when they shone [the light] before my eyes, I couldn’t believe it.” He was later taken to the hospital and reported to be in stable condition by CCTV.

The search and rescue focus have intensified on 12 hydropower projects in Nepal, where around 900 workers are missing, with an estimated 500 individuals believed to be trapped in various tunnels. Specialized teams from countries like India, China, South Korea, and the United States are working tirelessly to locate survivors among the debris and damaged structures.
