“Michael Schumacher Adapts to Eye Communication Post-Accident”

Published on

Formula One icon Michael Schumacher, known for his legendary racing career, has adapted to communicating primarily through his eyes following a life-altering skiing accident almost 12 years ago. Since sustaining a severe brain injury in the French Alps in December 2013, Schumacher has maintained a low profile under the devoted care of his wife, Corinna.

Initially, fans held onto hope for Schumacher’s full recovery as a seven-time F1 champion. However, the reality of his prolonged absence from the public eye has gradually set in.

Despite limited direct interaction, details about Schumacher’s current state occasionally surface. Elisabetta Gregoraci, the former spouse of ex-Benetton chief Flavio Briatore, disclosed in 2020 that Schumacher now communicates non-verbally through eye movements.

Corinna, who wed Schumacher in 1995, has been instrumental in overseeing her husband’s well-being post-injury. This responsibility has led to stringent restrictions on visitation to ensure Schumacher’s privacy and comfort.

In a rare public appearance in September 2024 at his daughter Gina-Maria’s wedding in Mallorca, Schumacher reportedly attended the ceremony amidst tight security measures to prevent unauthorized photography. Despite rumors, no leaked images of the renowned Ferrari legend emerged.

Most of Schumacher’s care has taken place at their Lake Geneva property in Switzerland, although the family’s residence in Mallorca, acquired in 2017, has also been a significant location for his recovery journey. Corinna finalized the purchase of the estate, previously owned by Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, amid speculations of a permanent relocation that were later dispelled.

While absent from the public eye, Schumacher continues to hold a special place in the hearts of F1 enthusiasts and acquaintances. Jean Todt, Schumacher’s former Ferrari team principal, expressed fondness for their bond but acknowledged the changes in Schumacher’s life and character post-injury.

For F1 enthusiasts eager to catch all the action, Sky offers comprehensive coverage including live practice, qualifying sessions, and races with the Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle, which also includes access to a wide range of TV channels, Netflix, and Discovery+ subscriptions.
