Macklemore has shared that his newly announced tour aimed at supporting Palestinians quickly sold out all three scheduled shows. The tour, called the Free Palestine tour, was unveiled just a week ago with October dates set for Dublin, Paris, and London. The rapper has not disclosed the lineup yet but mentioned that the shows will include him and some special guests, with further details to be revealed soon.
This European tour was announced following Macklemore’s removal as the opening act for Ed Sheeran’s U.S. tour leg. Expressing his gratitude on Instagram, Macklemore expressed surprise at the swift sell-out of the shows, emphasizing the importance of musicians standing in solidarity with Palestine and using their platform to raise funds for the cause.
Although there have been inquiries about potential shows in Canada, Macklemore’s representatives have not provided any official responses. The tour, organized by Live Nation, aims to support various Palestinian aid organizations, including Gaza Soup Kitchen, Palestinian Youth Movement, Jewish Voice for Peace, and UNRWA USA.
The decision to drop Macklemore from Sheeran’s tour stemmed from threats made by owners of American venues, including Robert Kraft, chairman of The Kraft Group. This move was influenced by Macklemore’s long-standing pro-Palestinian stance, which he has publicly voiced on numerous occasions in the past.
Following the controversy, Sheeran made a statement addressing the situation, leading to the withdrawal of all other opening acts, including his own backing band. The shows at Gillette Stadium were eventually canceled due to adverse weather conditions.
