The funeral of Ricky Hatton, a renowned boxing figure, is scheduled for Friday, October 10. Hatton, a former world welterweight and light-welterweight champion, was discovered deceased at his residence in Hyde, Greater Manchester, at 46 years of age last month.
The procession details have been confirmed, outlining the path the coffin of the British icon will follow leading to his midday funeral. The cortege will commence from Gee Cross, pass through Hyde towards Manchester Cathedral, and culminate at the Etihad Stadium, the home ground of Manchester City, a team close to Hatton’s heart.
Starting at the Cheshire Cheese pub on Stockport Road, Hyde, around 9:45 am, the procession will progress to various locations including Harehill Tavern, The New Inn where doves will be released, Hatton’s Gym, Hyde Town Hall, Betta Bodies Gym, and the AO Arena.
A private memorial ceremony will take place at the cathedral at noon, followed by the procession’s relocation to the Etihad Stadium. The boxer’s son, Campbell, was visibly moved by a poignant tribute before a recent game against Burnley.
While the memorial service is by invitation only, members of the public will have the opportunity to pay their respects as the funeral procession proceeds to the cathedral.
Condolences from across the globe poured in for the late fighter post his demise. In a touching tribute, Hatton’s family described him as more than just a world champion but also a loving father, grandfather, brother, and a dear friend to many.
Acknowledged as one of boxing’s finest champions, Hatton’s legacy embodies fighting spirit, humility, and a passion for the sport. The family expressed their immense loss while appreciating the overwhelming support received, seeking privacy to cope with their grief as they cherish Richard’s enduring memory in their hearts and the sport he cherished.
