Jade Thirlwall recently disclosed that she will not be profiting from one of her new songs. The talented singer, formerly of the X Factor group Little Mix, dropped her debut album, “That’s Showbiz Baby!” on Friday, featuring a track that samples a classic tune by Diana Ross and The Supremes. The song, “Before You Break My Heart,” samples The Supremes’ iconic 1965 hit, “Stop! In The Name of Love.” Jade shared that she was able to use the sample with the agreement that she would not receive any royalties from it.

In an interview, Jade expressed surprise that “Before You Break My Heart” has gained significant online traction despite her initial reservations. The album has already claimed the No. 3 spot on the UK midweek charts and is expected to climb higher, though Jade humbly predicted Ed Sheeran’s album might take the top spot instead. As a solo artist, Jade has achieved two UK Top 40 hits with “Angel of My Dreams” reaching No. 7 and “FUFN” peaking at No. 25 in March.

“Angel of My Dreams” appears to hint at Jade’s past dealings with Simon Cowell, under whom Little Mix secured their first record deal after winning X Factor in 2011. While part of Little Mix, Jade amassed numerous accolades, including three BRIT Awards. Now pursuing her solo career, she has already clinched a BRIT Award for best pop act and is gearing up for a nationwide tour next month.

Jade’s former bandmates have also ventured into solo endeavors, with Perrie Edwards preparing to release her debut solo album and Leigh-Anne Pinnock having launched her own album last year. Jesy Nelson, who departed the group in 2020, released a single called “Boyz” featuring Nicki Minaj. Perrie is set to be featured in an upcoming BBC documentary titled “Girlbands Forever,” shedding light on the realities of being in groups like Little Mix.
