Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon resulted in the deaths of four individuals, including two women, as per the Lebanese Health Ministry. The strikes were in response to alleged Hezbollah drone attacks within areas occupied by Israeli forces. Despite a ceasefire brokered by the U.S. with Hezbollah in June, the Israeli military is actively operating in a designated security zone in southern Lebanon.
The Lebanese Health Ministry reported that two men were killed in a town at the edge of the Israeli-occupied zone, while the two women lost their lives in Arab Salim, located significantly north of the occupied area. Ahead of the strike that took place in Arab Salim, the Israeli military issued an evacuation warning for nearby areas, citing the building’s use by Hezbollah. The strike resulted in injuries to six individuals, including two girls.
Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun’s office condemned the strikes, describing them as a “dangerous escalation” that targeted civilian facilities, including a hospital and a Finance Ministry building. President Aoun held Israel accountable for the escalation, urging the United States and the international community to intervene and hold the perpetrators responsible.
According to the Israeli military, their targets included Hezbollah weapons storage facilities and a command center located in a building formerly used as a hospital. Precision munitions and aerial surveillance were employed to minimize civilian casualties. This marked the second evacuation warning issued since the ceasefire announcement in June.
Previously, on August 5, an evacuation order was issued for residents of Mansouri near Tyre, following leaflet drops warning of impending strikes. In another incident, four individuals were killed and 23 were injured in southern Lebanon due to Israeli strikes launched without prior evacuation notices. Hezbollah accused Israel of escalating tensions to pressure the Lebanese government, which has been engaged in talks with Israel under U.S. mediation—a dialogue rejected by the Iran-backed group.
Since March 2, over 4,300 individuals have lost their lives in Lebanon due to Israeli airstrikes following Hezbollah’s attack on Israel in support of Iran.
