Ikea has announced the closure of one of its stores, just two years after its grand opening. The Plan and Order point located at Stockport Merseyway Shopping Centre will cease operations on June 16.
These specific Ikea stores, known as Plan and Order points, primarily focus on assisting customers with kitchen, bedroom, and living room planning by providing design advice. While customers cannot physically take items home from these points, they can place orders for home delivery. The nearest full-scale Ikea store to Stockport is situated in Ashton-under-Lyne in Tameside.
Salma Azad, Ikea’s area manager, expressed regret over the decision to close the Merseyway Shopping Centre location after a thorough evaluation process. She emphasized the valuable insights gained during the two-year operation, which will inform future store openings to better serve customers.
In other news, Ikea recently unveiled its latest retail addition on Oxford Street in London, taking over the former TopShop site. This multi-floor store covers a retail space of 5,800 square meters, offering around 6,000 product lines, with 3,500 available for immediate purchase.
Speaking about the Oxford Street store launch, Peter Jelkeby, IKEA UK’s CEO and Chief Sustainability Officer, highlighted the store’s new features tailored to Londoners. Tolga Öncü, Ingka Retail Manager (COO) at IKEA Retail (Ingka Group), emphasized the significance of adding Oxford Street to the IKEA map and the brand’s commitment to innovating retail presence in city centers worldwide.
