“Heathrow Terminal 3 Car Park Fire Causes Travel Disruption”

Published on

A vehicle caught fire at the car park of Heathrow Airport’s terminal 3 this morning, leading to significant disruption for travelers heading to the airport. Video footage captured bright orange flames engulfing the structure and thick grey smoke billowing from the area. Travelers were observed waiting on the roadside with their luggage as a queue of vehicles formed near Heathrow.

The fire caused disturbances on the M4 tunnel towards Terminals 2 and 3, resulting in temporary closures and delays for drivers. Clarification was made regarding an earlier report that stated an electric vehicle was involved in the fire; it was confirmed to be a diesel car by the London Fire Brigade.

Heathrow Airport confirmed the swift extinguishing of the fire at its Terminal 3 car park, leading to a temporary closure of the facility and subsequent congestion on nearby roads. The airport assured that other parking areas were operating normally and apologized for any inconvenience caused.

The southbound M4 spur leading to Heathrow Airport from M4 J4 has reopened following the car fire incident. The London Fire Brigade is investigating the cause of the fire, which destroyed a diesel car on level one of the car park and caused minor damage to two adjacent vehicles.

This incident follows a prior major crash at J14 on the M25, resulting in significant delays towards Heathrow Airport. National Highways reported an hour-long queue for that route, with road closure expected until mid-afternoon due to ongoing police investigations.

Heathrow Airport noted the closure of the Terminal 3 car park, which may cause delays on nearby roads, while the rest of the airport remains operational. National Highways advised drivers to use alternative routes due to the closure of a section of the M4 southbound from the airport.

The London Fire Brigade dispatched multiple units to the car park fire, with firefighters swiftly controlling the situation. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Travelers were advised to adjust their plans due to the incident, with bus services to Heathrow being rerouted as a precautionary measure.
