“Graduate Engineer at Nestlé Challenges Stereotypes”

Published on

Emma Robinson, a participant in Nestlé’s graduate program since last September, emphasizes the creativity in engineering, contrary to common perceptions. She highlights the excitement of designing and implementing innovative ideas to bring concepts to life. Currently stationed at Nestlé’s Product Technology Centre in York, Emma collaborates on developing new products and processes, particularly within the confectionery sector, including renowned brands like KitKat.

In her role, Emma customizes and fabricates specialized equipment for Nestlé’s factories, with a primary focus on chocolate-related projects. She humorously notes the abundant opportunities for indulging in chocolate while on the job. Nestlé’s comprehensive graduate schemes span various disciplines such as engineering, technical leadership, sales, and HR, offering a two-year stint to explore diverse roles within the organization.

Emma reveals her upcoming assignment at Nestlé’s Buxton facility, where she will venture into water-related projects, anticipating that the broad product exposure will enhance her engineering capabilities. Motivated by her passion for chemistry during her academic years, Emma pursued a master’s degree in chemical engineering, eventually gravitating towards Nestlé’s graduate program for its promising developmental prospects.

With global prospects and cross-functional opportunities, Nestlé nurtures talent across different domains, with potential for international assignments. Emma recounts the dynamic nature of her daily tasks, ranging from assisting in pilot plant experiments to crafting designs using proprietary 3D modeling tools, and creating process diagrams. She acknowledges her rapid skill development, attributing much of her progress to the supportive team environment and mentorship she receives.

While Emma aims to excel in the graduate program and secure a permanent role at Nestlé, she actively engages in outreach programs to inspire young girls, especially promoting interest in the engineering realm through engaging activities related to chocolate innovation. Beyond the allure of chocolate perks, Emma values the collaborative atmosphere at Nestlé, relishing the satisfaction of witnessing diverse product developments reach consumers’ shelves.
