John Tory, the former Toronto mayor, has been appointed as the new chair of the board of directors at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). In a released statement, Tory expressed his enthusiasm to collaborate with the board, leaders, artists, filmmakers, and the wider TIFF community to influence the organization’s future direction.

Tory’s tenure commences on October 1, as confirmed in a recent news release. This year’s festival is scheduled to take place from September 10 to 20. He takes over from Jeffrey Remedios, who held the position since 2021 and commended TIFF and its leadership, stating his enduring pride in his contributions to the festival’s evolution.

Additionally, TIFF disclosed the addition of three new board members – Deborah Flint, David Furnish, and Daniel Tisch Echevarría. The organization also bid farewell to Asha Daniere, who served on the board for nine years, with TIFF expressing gratitude for her dedicated service and contributions to the institution.
