Jay Slater’s father, deeply saddened by his son’s passing, has shared the poignant desire he had for Jay before his funeral. Jay, only 19 at the time, tragically lost his life in Tenerife last year.
Following his attendance at a festival with friends Lucy Law, Brad Hargreaves, and Brandon Hodgson, Jay went missing on June 27. His body was discovered in a ravine in Tenerife’s Parque Rural de Teno on July 15 after a month-long search.
After leaving the RG festival in Playa de las Americas, Jay journeyed to an Airbnb in the national park with two companions, a distance of 22 miles from his initial location. His friend mentioned that returning to their accommodation would have been either a 15-minute drive or a 14-hour walk.
When Jay disappeared, he was dressed in a grey T-shirt with a green stripe and wearing trainers for his night out in Tenerife. In a Channel 4 documentary, Jay’s father, Warren, expressed his wish for Jay to be laid to rest in the outfit he was found in, as it represented his party attire.
The documentary also captures Jay’s mother, Debbie, emotionally recounting the belongings Jay had with him when he was found deceased. She revealed the contents of his bag, including his driving license, aftershave, and lighters. Despite a leaked toxicology report indicating traces of MDMA and cocaine in Jay’s system, it did not attribute to his cause of death.
Debbie further shared her ongoing struggle with unpacking Jay’s suitcase from his final holiday, where his clothes remain neatly folded and untouched. The documentary also provides access to unheard audio recordings and unsent messages, offering insight into the Slater family’s quest for answers.
“The Disappearance of Jay Slater” will air on Channel 4 on Sunday, September 28, at 9 pm. For more entertainment news and updates, follow Mirror Celebs on various social media platforms.
