Father in Notting Hill Names Sons After Bond Villains, Unfazed by Unique Choices

Published on

A father who decided to name his sons after iconic James Bond villains as a form of retaliation against his wife believes that they will not face bullying due to the prevalent use of unique names like Tarquin in their upscale neighborhood of Notting Hill, London.

William Woodhams and Annabel Simpson, along with their children Stanley Beats Scaramanga Woodhams and Basil Groove Blofeld Woodhams, reside in the affluent area of Notting Hill. The father expressed his dissatisfaction with his wife’s choice of Stanley’s middle name, influenced by her DJ career and favorite character from the BBC sitcom People Just Do Nothing. In response, he opted to include Scaramanga, Bond’s adversary from The Man with the Golden Gun, to counter her selection.

Upon the birth of their second son Basil, an announcement was made in The Times, where the father explained his inspiration from Ernst Stavro Blofeld, a recurring antagonist in the 007 franchise. Despite his unconventional naming approach, he remains confident that his children will not face ridicule at school.

The father, having experienced teasing himself with his middle name Rodney during the popularity of Only Fools and Horses, believes that his sons will be resilient and outgoing individuals. He emphasized that the local environment in Notting Hill, where children are often named Tarquin or Farquaad, will shield his sons from potential teasing. He encouraged other parents to embrace unique names rather than opting for conventional choices.

In a separate incident, a new mother inadvertently named her baby after a pet food brand, unaware of its association before her sister pointed it out, causing her distress. The mother sought advice on the appropriateness of the family name Pierina, considering the potential mispronunciation linked to the pet food brand Purina. Despite its significance as a family name, she expressed concerns about the wider perception and sought input on the matter.
