“Farage’s Swan Consumption Claim Sparks Controversy”

Published on

Nigel Farage faced criticism for his baseless assertion that migrants are hunting and consuming swans from parks in the UK. The leader of Reform UK implied that individuals from Eastern Europe were capturing swans from Royal Parks and fish from ponds for consumption. However, the Royal Parks promptly dismissed this claim, stating that no such incidents had been reported in London’s eight Royal Parks. They emphasized their close collaboration with the Swan Sanctuary to safeguard the well-being of swans in the parks they oversee, including Hyde Park, Greenwich Park, and Richmond Park.

During an LBC phone-in, Nigel Farage was questioned about former US President Donald Trump’s unsupported allegation last year that Haitian immigrants in the US were eating cats and dogs, a claim Farage did not acknowledge as substantiated. LBC host Nick Ferrari played back a previous interview where Farage wagered £10 that evidence would surface to support Trump’s unverified claim about Haitian migrants consuming pets.

When asked if he would now concede that Trump’s claim was baseless, Farage shifted the conversation to the possibility of swan consumption in Britain, likening it to Trump’s pet-eating allegation, which he argued was challenging to prove or disprove. Farage insinuated that individuals from cultures where consuming swans and carp is acceptable are engaging in these practices in the UK, particularly pointing towards Eastern Europeans.

In another segment of the LBC interview, Farage declined to comment on Trump’s linking of paracetamol to autism, asserting that “science is never settled” and refusing to align with medical experts cautioning against such associations. Health Secretary Wes Streeting criticized Farage for lacking knowledge and courage, citing an instance where a health adviser at Reform UK’s conference suggested the Covid vaccine caused cancer in the Royal Family. Streeting condemned Farage as anti-science, anti-reason, and anti-NHS, labeling him as the purveyor of pseudo-science in British politics.

Previously, President Trump claimed a surge in autism cases and implicated Tylenol (known as paracetamol in the UK) as a potential trigger during a discussion in the Oval Office. This assertion, unverified and controversial, drew immediate backlash from experts and medical regulators.
