A father, Darren Rainey, has accused easyJet of abandoning his family after an incident where they were flown to the wrong country and left stranded at Split Airport. The family, traveling from Luton to Crete, faced an overnight delay in Croatia due to an emergency landing. Despite promises of accommodation by easyJet, they were left to fend for themselves at the airport.
Darren expressed his frustration with easyJet’s handling of the situation, stating that the airline initially refused compensation but later offered a refund after media intervention. Recounting the experience, he criticized the lack of communication and support from the airline during the ordeal.
The family, including three teenage children, endured a challenging night at the airport before finally departing for Crete the next day, causing them to lose a significant portion of their holiday time. Darren emphasized the negative impact the incident had on their vacation, highlighting the stress and disappointment it caused.
Despite complaints to easyJet, the airline has been unresponsive to requests for refunds or compensation, citing the emergency landing as justification. Darren expressed his disappointment with the lack of accountability and empathy from the airline, stressing that their treatment was unacceptable, especially considering the presence of children.
In response, an easyJet holidays spokesperson expressed regret over the situation, attributing the delay to a crew member’s medical emergency. The spokesperson acknowledged the inconvenience faced by the Rainey family and promised a refund for the night in Croatia, along with a gesture of goodwill to address the issue.
The incident serves as a reminder of the challenges travelers may encounter during unforeseen circumstances, emphasizing the importance of clear communication and adequate support from airlines in such situations.
