“Ex-Met Police Officer Sentenced to 16 Years for Rape”

Published on

A former Metropolitan Police officer, Jake Cummings, was sentenced to 16 years in prison for raping two women and engaging in coercive controlling behavior, voyeurism, and stalking. The judge described Cummings as “dangerous” and mandated that he serve two-thirds of his sentence before being eligible for parole.

The case against Cummings began when a victim reported the crimes to the police in February 2024. Subsequently, another woman came forward with similar allegations after reading media reports on the case. A third victim was identified through the examination of Cummings’ mobile phone. All three women had been in separate relationships with the ex-officer over a period of four years.

Cummings, aged 26, received a total sentence of 16 years, with an additional two-year extension for 10 offenses. He was convicted by a jury on charges of coercive controlling behavior, voyeurism, and rape during a retrial. Additionally, he admitted to two counts of stalking and was found guilty of a third count of the same offense.

During the sentencing, Judge Bilal Siddique highlighted the consistent abuse tactics Cummings used against his victims. He employed methods such as excessive messaging, isolation from support networks, and degradation, causing severe psychological harm to the women he assaulted.

The judge remarked that Cummings’ actions were premeditated and spanned nearly five years, constituting a sustained campaign of abuse. Notably, some of the contact with the victims occurred while Cummings was on duty as a police officer.

Witnesses testified to Cummings’ persistent messaging behavior, with one officer recalling his constant phone use during shifts. The court heard how Cummings made the victims’ lives unbearable between July 2019 and February 2024.

Prosecutors described Cummings’ conduct as controlling and manipulative, illustrating his belief that he was immune to the law. After joining the Metropolitan Police in 2019, Cummings used various phone apps to monitor and control his victims, maintaining a dominating presence in their lives.

The victims, aged between 19 and 24, hailed from different regions, all sharing similar accounts of harassment and coercive control by Cummings. Despite the end of the relationships, his abusive behavior persisted, leading to convictions on multiple charges.

Law enforcement officials praised the victims for their courage in coming forward and assisting with the investigation. They emphasized the importance of holding offenders like Cummings accountable and providing support to victims. The verdict serves as a message that justice will prevail, and no one is above the law.
