An ex-boyfriend, Dominic Williams, tormented his former girlfriend with controlling actions, including using a drone to surveil her. Williams, 33, also employed a tracking device to monitor his ex-partner, with whom he had an on-and-off relationship spanning approximately 12 years. The Cardiff Magistrates’ Court revealed that Williams even sabotaged clothes he disapproved of her wearing.

Refusing to acknowledge the end of the relationship, Williams engaged in intrusive behaviors, such as sending unsettling messages implying he had been observing her property. Despite initially denying the charges, Williams eventually pleaded guilty on the day of the trial. The court sentenced him to a 12-month suspended prison term, along with 20 days of rehabilitation and 80 hours of unpaid work. Additionally, he was ordered to cover prosecution costs of £400 and a victim services surcharge of £187.

The prosecutor, Millie Evans, described the tumultuous nature of their relationship, highlighting Williams’ controlling and jealous tendencies. She recounted instances of verbal abuse, threats of violence, and damaging property as a means of control. Evans also mentioned Williams’ unauthorized access to the victim’s property, where he placed tracking devices without consent.

Williams further exhibited disturbing behavior by sending explicit images of unidentified women to the victim, falsely insinuating she was involved. The victim expressed feeling overwhelmed and fearful due to Williams’ relentless surveillance and manipulation tactics, which impacted her emotional well-being.

During the court proceedings, Williams attempted to defend himself, claiming he was not violent and expressing regret over the toxic nature of the relationship. However, the presiding judge emphasized the severity of Williams’ actions, noting the deliberate intent to instill fear and distress over an extended period.

The court’s decision reflected the seriousness of the case, considering Williams’ coercive behavior and its lasting impact on the victim. The incident underscores the importance of addressing and condemning such controlling behaviors in relationships.
