Detectives have initiated a homicide inquiry following a deadly attack at Charing Cross Hospital in Hammersmith, London.

The incident took place on Thursday, September 18 when Metropolitan Police officers responded to a report of a patient being assaulted by another patient at the hospital. The victim, an 85-year-old man named Andrew Farmer from Ealing, passed away on Thursday, 25 September due to severe injuries. His family has been informed and is receiving support from specialized officers.

Following the assault, a 70-year-old man, Anatoliy Podmazko, was swiftly arrested at the scene. He was charged with causing grievous bodily harm on Saturday, 20 September and is scheduled to appear at Isleworth Crown Court on Friday, 17 October. Collaboration between officers and the Crown Prosecution Service is ongoing as the investigation develops.

Paul Wrigley, Andrew’s partner, expressed his grief by stating, “My partner of 60 years, dearly missed. A profound influence in various fields – opera, Devon topography, and social welfare. Scholarly with a hint of humor. Rest peacefully, my dear friend.”
