The Duke and Duchess of Wales have arrived to offer their condolences at the funeral of the Duchess of Kent. Earlier today, it was announced that William and Kate would attend the service at Westminster Cathedral for the late Duchess, who passed away earlier this month. Various members of the Royal Family, including King Charles, Prince Andrew, Princess Anne, and Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, were present at the service. William and Kate, dressed in black, attended together, with William carrying a white handkerchief and Kate wearing a black hat, pearl earrings, and a pearl and diamond choker necklace that belonged to Queen Elizabeth II.
Notably absent from the gathering was Queen Camilla, who withdrew from the event due to acute sinusitis. The Duchess of Kent, Katharine, passed away peacefully at 92 in early September, and her Catholic funeral marked the first of its kind for a member of the monarchy in modern British history. When she died, William and Kate expressed their condolences, highlighting her dedication to charity work and music.
The funeral service today featured a bagpipe lament, “Sleep, Dearie, Sleep,” performed by a piper from The Royal Dragoon Guards. The Duchess, formerly known as Katharine Worsley, was well-known for her appearances at Wimbledon and for her support of various causes. After stepping back from royal duties in 2002, she devoted her time to teaching music at a state school in Hull. Her public appearances became infrequent, with her last notable appearance being at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding in 2018.
