Shocking footage captured by a dashboard camera reveals a brutal assault on a DPD delivery driver by a criminal aiming to steal his mobile phone. The incident, involving Demetri Draco, 32, took place in Derby in June. The video shows Draco attacking the delivery driver in daylight, wrestling him to the ground, and violently kicking him before fleeing with the phone. Fortunately, the victim, although not seriously hurt, attempted to chase after Draco. Derbyshire Police identified Draco in the dashcam footage, leading to his arrest on suspicion of robbery. Draco later admitted to the crime and was sentenced to 15 months in prison by Derby Crown Court after being arrested at his residence.

In a separate incident, a thief stole chips from an Uber Eats rider in Liverpool in June, subsequently assaulting him. Christopher Fisher, 41, approached the rider, identified as Mr. Khalequzzaman, and grabbed food from his delivery bag before striking him with an improvised weapon. Fisher, who was on license for a previous robbery conviction, retaliated when the rider fought back to retrieve the stolen food. Fisher pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm and theft, receiving a three-year prison sentence.

During sentencing, Judge Medland criticized Fisher’s actions, highlighting the unjustifiable confrontation with the delivery driver and the impact on the victim’s livelihood. Fisher’s behavior was deemed as bullying, as he unlawfully detained the food delivery, which was essential for the rider’s income. The judge emphasized that the rider only defended himself and his property, and Fisher’s act of throwing the stolen food back at the victim showed contempt for his actions.
