A 55-year-old British tourist who went missing while hiking on the Greek island of Karpathos has been discovered deceased after more than a month of searching. The man had traveled solo to the island for the first time and was found in the secluded area of Epionia in the northern part of Karpathos on Saturday.
The last known sighting of the tourist was in June when he was taking photos with his phone in the fishing village of Diafani. A local witness mentioned that the man had inquired about directions to Vroukounda via the Lahamitis path.
After the man failed to return to his booked accommodation, emergency services were alerted. Firefighters, police, coast guard, drones, sniffer dogs, and volunteers extensively searched the area but could not locate him. His remains will be transported to the nearby island of Rhodes for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
In a separate incident earlier this month, another British tourist passed away at the popular Greek holiday destination of Prasonisi, Rhodes. The 57-year-old man was found in the water around midday on Sunday, September 7, unresponsive and without a pulse. Despite efforts by paramedics at the Gennadi Health Centre, he could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Authorities from the Lindos Port Authority have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death, with an autopsy scheduled to ascertain the exact cause of his demise.
