When deciding on our vote, it is crucial to consider who possesses the most experience and who can effectively communicate with Keir Starmer, even when delivering challenging messages.

For me, the key factor is a candidate who prioritizes education, an issue close to my heart throughout my public life. Bridget Philipson stands out due to her dedication to early childhood initiatives, such as reviving the Sure Start program, emphasizing quality childcare, and advocating for educational standards and progress for all.

Her involvement in leading the Child Poverty Review demonstrates not only her personal background and expertise but also her comprehensive understanding of the interconnected policies necessary to address family poverty and, consequently, child poverty.

Bridget’s influence can drive policy implementation, especially in addressing challenges like special educational needs left by previous administrations. As Deputy Leader, she would have the authority to unite colleagues and navigate complex political terrain, alongside figures like Rachel Reeves.

The winner of this contest will need to collaborate with Anna Turley, the new Party Chair, to define internal party boundaries, campaign strategies, and maintain cohesion within the Parliamentary Labour Party.

Although mundane at first glance, the deputy leadership election holds significant implications for the Labour Party’s future direction.
