Actor and champion for disability rights, RJ Mitte, known for his portrayal of a character with cerebral palsy on the hit show “Breaking Bad,” passed away at the age of 34 on Monday, according to authorities and his representatives. Mitte was pronounced dead around 1:30 p.m. by Cameron County Justice of the Peace Cyndi Hinojosa at what is believed to be his residence in Brownsville, Texas. The cause of his death remains unknown, pending an autopsy.

Mitte played the role of Walter White Jr., the son of Bryan Cranston’s character on “Breaking Bad,” appearing in almost every episode across the show’s five seasons. His personal experiences with cerebral palsy, which he was diagnosed with at the age of three, provided valuable insights into his character’s struggles with physical therapy, family dynamics, and medical challenges, all central themes of the series.

Born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi, Mitte ventured into acting in 2006 upon moving to Los Angeles, securing minor roles in sitcoms before landing the pivotal role on “Breaking Bad” in 2007. The show, which aired from 2008 to 2013, garnered critical acclaim and a loyal fan base.

In a statement released following his passing, Mitte’s representatives highlighted his commitment to raising awareness about disabilities and fostering inclusivity. Through his platform, he aimed to challenge stereotypes and advocate for increased representation in the entertainment industry.

Co-star Bryan Cranston paid tribute to Mitte on Instagram, praising his talent and positive energy both on and off the set. Mitte’s acting career extended beyond “Breaking Bad,” with appearances in shows like “Switched at Birth” and “Guardians of Justice,” along with producing independent films.

Beyond his acting career, Mitte was actively involved in advocacy work, serving as an ambassador for organizations such as United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s. He also founded the Mitte Foundation, dedicated to supporting charitable causes and community initiatives related to disabilities.
