A recent scam alert is cautioning individuals who made purchases on Amazon in March about a deceptive scheme falsely asserting a “product recall” declaration. The concerning text message, being sent to mobile phones in the UK, initiates with a notification stating, “Amazon Product Recall Notice.”
The message proceeds to promise a full reimbursement to recipients and urges them to click on a link to log in to their Amazon accounts. Furthermore, it emphasizes the immediate need to stop using the product right away.
The message, as reviewed by Mirror Online, conveys, “Dear Customer, we would like to inform you about a product recall affecting an item from your March 2026 order due to a design flaw that could pose a safety hazard. We regret any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your swift attention to this critical safety issue. Thank you for your ongoing trust in Amazon.”
Despite its alarming tone, there is no actual product recall. The message serves as a phishing scam intended to deceive anxious customers into divulging their login credentials, which could lead to detrimental consequences.
Individuals who fall prey to clicking on the provided link are directed to a counterfeit Amazon sign-in page that appears genuine. Once login details are entered, scammers can illicitly obtain them, potentially conduct unauthorized transactions, block access to victims’ accounts, or access personal data.
Although this particular scam is relatively recent and has just started targeting mobile devices, it is not the first time Amazon patrons have been victimized. In February, consumer advocacy group Which? issued a similar alert following the circulation of messages by cybercriminals claiming a product had been recalled “due to safety concerns,” redirecting recipients to a fraudulent Amazon webpage.
In a statement to Which?, Amazon highlighted, “There are various scams persuading individuals to make payments via email, phone, or text for goods or services. Exercise caution whenever pressured to act immediately, as scammers often induce urgency to coerce individuals and utilize convincing tactics to lure consumers in. We encourage individuals to report suspected scams to safeguard their accounts and refer perpetrators to law enforcement.”
Amazon also advises customers to exercise caution regarding:
• Unfamiliar phone numbers or texts from numbers with atypical or foreign country codes
• Messages concerning orders or deliveries that were not anticipated
• Links displaying misspellings, unusual formatting, or URLs utilizing IP addresses instead of standard web addresses
