Beloved Actress Patricia Crowley Dies at 91

Actress Patricia Crowley, known for her roles in various TV shows and films, has passed away at the age of 91. Her son, Jon Hookstratten, confirmed her death, stating that she died of natural causes in Los Angeles on Sunday.

Crowley, a beloved icon, is survived by her husband, Andy Friendly, whom she married in 1986. Before Andy, she was married to Ed Hookstratten, a prominent sports and entertainment attorney who represented famous personalities like Elvis Presley, Johnny Carson, and Vin Scully.

One of Crowley’s most notable roles was as Joan Nash in the NBC comedy series “Please Don’t Eat The Daisies” during the 1960s. She portrayed a newspaper writer and a mother of four energetic boys living in a castle-like home with their giant sheepdog, Ladadog. Additionally, she gained recognition for her performances in “Dynasty,” “Forever Female,” and “Money From Home.”

Her portrayal of Sally Carver in “Forever Female” alongside Ginger Rogers and William Holden, as well as her role as Dr. Autumn Claypool in “Money From Home” with Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis, earned her the Golden Globe Award for New Star of the Year – Actress.

Throughout her career, Crowley appeared in several TV shows and movies, including “Red Garters,” “There’s Always Tomorrow,” “The Square Jungle,” and “Walk the Proud Land.” She showcased her talents not only in acting but also in singing and dancing on various shows like The Dean Martin Show, Charlie’s Angels, Hawaii 5-0, Murder, She Wrote, Frasier, and Friends.

In 1986, she made a notable appearance as Emily Fallmont in 10 episodes of “Dynasty.” Towards the end of her career, she appeared in shows like “The Bold and the Beautiful,” “The Closer,” and “Cold Case,” with her final role being in the film “Mont Reve” in 2012.

Born in 1933 in Olyphant, Pennsylvania, to a coal miner, Crowley ventured into showbiz following her sister’s footsteps to New York City. She made her Broadway debut in 1950 as the lead in the comedy “Southern Exposure” during her senior year in high school at the High School of Performing Arts.

Crowley is survived by her husband, son Jon, daughter Ann, son-in-law Robert, daughter-in-law Marion, five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
