Amazon has alerted certain users of Fire TV and Echo devices that the Fire TV Blaster will soon be discontinued. The device, which provided hands-free voice controls for home theatres when paired with a Fire TV Stick or smart speaker, will cease functioning in the upcoming weeks. Users were able to use the Fire TV Blaster to control soundbars, adjust volume, and change channels via Alexa voice commands.
The Fire TV Blaster was removed from sale a year ago due to complex setup issues and received negative reviews. Amazon introduced the more user-friendly Fire TV Cube with similar functionalities, leading to the decline in demand for the standalone IR blaster.
Owners of the Fire TV Blaster in the US have the option to exchange it for a discounted Fire TV Cube. Meanwhile, UK users will receive a £34.99 gift card automatically credited to their accounts. Amazon mentioned in an email to customers that support for the Fire TV Blaster will be discontinued, rendering the device inoperable.
Additionally, Amazon is offering free recycling for old Fire TV Blasters. Users can print a shipping label and return the device for recycling purposes.
