Alanis Morissette has initiated legal action against her former tour manager, accusing her of orchestrating a coercive scheme to implicate the singer in drug trafficking unless Morissette agreed to a lengthy contract. The lawsuit, filed in California and obtained by CBC News, alleges that Keren Urinov threatened to report Morissette to British authorities for drug trafficking unless Morissette hired her as a tour director for 15 years and provided substantial compensation.

Morissette is suing Urinov for civil extortion, fraud, and negligent misrepresentation, asserting that she will not succumb to the pressure of a blackmailer seeking a significant payout. The legal action aims to expose Urinov’s tactics and hold her accountable for her actions.

The dispute stems from Urinov’s employment as a temporary tour manager for Morissette’s world tour in 2025. During a trip from the U.K. to Spain for a concert, Urinov was allegedly involved in an incident where a bag containing marijuana and xylazine was flagged by British Border Force officials. Despite Urinov’s admission of ownership and presentation of a medical marijuana license, the situation was resolved with no charges pressed.

Following the tour, Urinov allegedly sent a series of threatening letters to Morissette, demanding a fixed 15-year contract with substantial financial benefits and assistance in obtaining a work visa for the United States. Morissette also highlights instances where Urinov’s management of the tour was deemed inadequate, including significant financial losses and undisclosed legal troubles in Latin America.

Morissette’s lawsuit emphasizes her reluctance to resort to legal action but asserts that she had no alternative given the circumstances. The singer is pushing for a trial by jury in this matter. CBC News has reached out to Urinov and Morissette’s representatives for comment.
