Perrie Edwards of Little Mix to Star in BBC’s “Girlbands Forever”

Published on

Former member of Little Mix, Perrie Edwards, is expected to appear in a new documentary titled Girlbands Forever on the BBC. This announcement has surprised many, especially since stars from other girl groups like Girls Aloud and Spice Girls have chosen not to participate in the show, possibly due to concerns raised by the previous documentary, Boybands Forever.

The previous documentary did not feature One Direction, another group that rose to fame through the ITV show X Factor, much like Little Mix. The absence of these newer bands was linked to the documentary’s focus on the boy band era of the 1990s and 2000s.

Despite expectations that Little Mix would not be included in the new documentary, the BBC has confirmed that the film will cover the period relevant to the group’s rise to fame. Louis Theroux, the producer, expressed his enjoyment in revisiting the music and personalities from that era, highlighting both the joy and challenges associated with young fame in the music industry.

Joining Perrie in the documentary are other notable names from girl bands, including Heidi Range from Sugababes, Kéllé Bryan of Eternal, Kerry Katona from Atomic Kitten, Melanie Blatt from All Saints, Su-Elise Nash from Misteeq, and Tulisa from NDubz, who served as a judge for Little Mix on X Factor.

Despite being the only female member in her band, Tulisa will feature in the documentary, although N-Dubz itself is not part of the discussion. The documentary will also include appearances from industry veterans like Pete Tong, Pete Waterman, and BBC Radio DJ Scott Mills, who have longstanding careers in the music business.

Perrie’s team has not responded to requests for comments regarding her participation in the documentary. Recently, the singer announced her second pregnancy on Instagram, receiving warm wishes from her Little Mix bandmates and fans.

The documentary Girlbands Forever is scheduled to air on BBC Two and iPlayer later this year, offering viewers a nostalgic look back at the music and talents of that era.
