A man was fatally shot with 13 bullets in an incident where he reportedly challenged his assailant to shoot him. Tyrone de Shun Childs Jr, aged 21, has been named as the suspect in the murder of Jermaine Jabaar Typray Baker, 35, who was shot at close range in Minneapolis during a period of heightened criminal activity. Childs allegedly rifled through the victim’s possessions after the shooting, which occurred around 2 am on August 27 on Hennepin Avenue.

Initial reports suggest that Childs initially demanded belongings from Mr. Baker, who defiantly responded, “You’ll have to shoot me.” Childs then allegedly fired 13 shots, some while Baker was on the ground, before searching through his belongings and walking away calmly toward a woman’s residence with whom he shares a child.

Crystal Henry-Smith, Baker’s mother, expressed a desire for justice, stating, “We want justice.” Childs faces charges of second-degree murder. Authorities mentioned that another individual was also injured during the incident but provided no further details.

According to police statements, Childs is charged with second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, with allegations indicating that Childs shot the victim 13 times during a robbery and looted his possessions post-mortem.

Minneapolis has recently witnessed a spate of violence, including a shooting at a homeless camp on September 15 that left eight individuals wounded, four critically. Earlier on the same day, another shooting near a transit station resulted in five injuries.

Furthermore, there have been tragic incidents of violence in the city, such as the assassination of Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband in their home, along with the shooting of another state lawmaker and his wife on the same day in June. A mass shooting at a Minneapolis church in late August claimed the lives of two children and left 21 others injured.
