Terence “Bud” Crawford, the recently crowned undisputed world super middleweight boxing champion, found himself in a challenging situation when he was pulled over by police for suspicion of reckless driving in his hometown of Omaha, NE, early on a Saturday morning.

During the incident, Crawford and three passengers were asked to exit their vehicle at gunpoint after law enforcement officers noticed a firearm on the car floor, which belonged to one of Crawford’s companions.

The officers immediately recognized Crawford, who was in town celebrating his 38th birthday and recent victory over Canelo Alvarez in Las Vegas. The police department, led by Omaha Mayor John Ewing and Police Chief Todd Schmaderer, acknowledged the event and initiated an internal affairs investigation upon viewing a video circulating on social media.

The traffic stop occurred around 1:30 a.m. in downtown Omaha, where officers observed the vehicle driving recklessly near North 12th and Capitol Avenue before conducting a stop at Cass Street, as reported by the Irish Mirror.

Upon further inspection, it was determined that all occupants, including Crawford and his security team member carrying a legal firearm, were authorized to possess firearms. The driver, identified as Mr. Crawford, was issued a citation for reckless driving.

Mayor Ewing expressed the importance of maintaining trust between law enforcement and the community, emphasizing the need for transparency and continuous efforts to strengthen relationships. Crawford’s security team head, Qasim Shabazz, shared his concerns about the incident, mentioning the tense situation with the police officers.

In response to the incident, the Omaha Police Chief pledged a thorough internal investigation to gather all relevant facts and ensure transparency in sharing the findings with the public.
